favorite vacation spots in Republic of Montainous Karabakh. One of the basic
sights of the city is Shoushi fortress. The walls of a citadel which have
almost completely kept up to now from the beginning of XVIII century were
erected by the meliks (princes) of Varanda and subsequently, the leaders of
nomadic Turkic tribes invited here. After connection of Karabakh to Russia
there have been reconstructed by Russian military engineers before heroic
defense of Shoushi in the Russian-Persian war of 1826. Continue tour with

from white limestone on the wide area in city centre, it is skillfully
decorated by the thinnest expressive groove. Sightseeing tour to Gorge

architectural monuments of Karabakh, situated 18 km away from Martakert city,

built by order of the Armenian king Tigran the Great in the 1c BC. The ruins of
fortress wall, surrounding the city, have already been excavated by the
archaeologists, a rocky cave church turned into the Christian church later and
traces of irrigative system are discovered as well. Continue
tour to Gandzasar Monastery. People call Gandzasar differently -
"the greatest miracle of the Armenian architecture", "church
similar to the heaven's cupola church", " perfect creation", but
the human tongue is powerless to describe this truly grand sight. The
construction of the monastery was initiated in 1216 and was finished in 1238. Lunch.

constructions is situated at the foot of the mountain covered with forests and
referred to the south. The monastery was founded by St. Dadi who was the
disciple of Thaddeus the Apostle who spread Christianity in Eastern Armenia
